Considered one of the most important figures in New Zealand Modernism, Louise Henderson's cubist and abstract paintings reflect the finely tuned skills acquired under the tutelage of eminent French artist Jean Metzinger in the early 1950s in Paris.
Art critic Tom Bolster stated of Henderson's art that it was "so well ahead of most of that being done in New Zealand, so technically accomplished, so imaginative, original and exploratory that only those who has recently been abroad could appreciate the level she had reached."
